The darkening of 2017

There have been many dark days so far in 2017, but today is the day when the firmament finally aligns with human experience and even the sun will hide its face in shame.

This map shows where the eclipse will be total and where it will be only partial in the United States. I'm in that lower 50% area so my sun will not go completely dark. Even at 50% though it should be an impressive event.

Yes, that is what you think it is - the "moon" is covering the sun.

  1. Hmmm...I was terribly excited, but neither did I get special eyeglasses nor is the cloudiness cooperating. :-( 50% in my area. I wish I had been in the 100% path!

    1. 100% would be extremely exciting. I can only watch it on TV and even there it's exciting. Here, we have dark clouds this afternoon, as we do most afternoons at this time of year, but even so one could see that the quality of light was different. It was quite crepuscular for a short while.

    1. Wow, that's quite a crowd! Nice to be able to enjoy it as a group experience.

  3. Only 50% here in Los Angeles, but the changing of the light was cool. I watched a live feed on Twitter also, from the Oregon full eclipse. Didn't need the glasses!

    1. The changing of the light was literally cool. We dropped a couple of degrees there for a while.
