"Books We Loved"

Every month, Carole Durbin of "Carole's Chatter" hosts a meme in which bloggers who review books are invited to link to their reviews of books that they loved in order to recommend them to others. I enjoy participating and always look forward to seeing what my fellow blogger/reviewers are recommending.

Carole specifies that bloggers may link to any book that they have loved - it doesn't have to be one that was read recently. But I always limit myself to books that I have read during the past month.

This month, I am linking to the two books which I most enjoyed reading during the past month, one fiction and one nonfiction.

My fiction choice is The Handsome Man's De Luxe Cafe by Alexander McCall Smith. This is the latest in his long-running "No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" series. I've read all of them and enjoyed every one and I always look forward to my next opportunity to spend time with the wise and compassionate Precious Ramotswe.

The book which I MOST enjoyed reading in the past month is my nonfiction recommendation, The Plantagenets by Dan Jones. It was the only book which I awarded five stars during that period. It tells the story of the beginnings and the long reign of England's first true ruling dynasty. It's a story that has all the blood, lust, cruelty, and venality of Game of Thrones but it is about real people and a real throne.

I invite you to follow the link to "Carole's Chatter" and see what other bloggers from around the world are recommending this month.

Happy reading!
