Good morning, Dorothy. Thank you for the roundup. It’s great to see the Andean Cock-of-the-rock featured this week. I most recently saw them in Colombia last December. It’s a fabulous bird. It’s tragic to see that environmental protections continue to be eroded and magnificent national parks reduced in size. This madness seems to know no end. Forest fires have raged for weeks in our boreal forest and we take no pleasure in sending smoke south of the border. Yet this tragic event, brought on by the climate crisis, with hotter, drier conditions year after year, has become anti-Canadian fodder in the mouths of vile, unprincipled politicians. It’s little wonder that fewer and fewer Canadian wish to travel to the United States and the boycott of American goods gets ever stronger. A relationship that endured, was cherished and was in many respects a model for the world has been shattered, and the pieces will never fit together again. Very best wishes - David
ReplyDeleteThe answer to our problems is elections and we can only hope that this year's election will begin to mend our relationship. I choose to believe it can be mended if we can be rational with our elective choices. The forest fires are so troubling, not for the smoke coming south but for the destruction of habitats, animals and plants. But I trust in the power of Nature to recover to its more normal state after the loss. Color me the "Eternal Optimist" I guess.

DeleteI've always been fascinated with Daddy Long-legs. The little cabin where I stay when I visit my son and his family has so many this time of year on the screen door. I just can't bear to hear all the bad environmental news caused by that person in charge. I just keep calling my reps in Washington.
