Trout lilies

The trout lilies are blooming by my little backyard pond. Spring is on the way!

  1. We still have a little time to wait, but signs of spring are all around now, especially birds returning. We are predicted to get snow tomorrow, however, so there will be a lull!

    1. I'm treated to the spring chorus of birds whenever I am outside these days and I'm sure many of the singers will be headed your way soon or are already headed your way.

  2. They are so pretty. I wonder how they came by such an unattractive name.

    1. Hmm...I hadn't really thought of it as an unattractive name but it may be because they tend to grow in wet boggy places near where fish like trout may hang out.

  3. Beautiful. Spring really is on its way, hurrah. I have bulbs starting to come up but our temperatures today will be about one-half of what they were yesterday. Brrrrr!

    1. This may be your last cold spell because warmer weather is definitely creeping north and may creep a bit faster in the next week.

    1. They were sold to me as "trout lilies" at a garden center show many years ago and I've never questioned the name. It may, in fact, be a common name used in this area.
